Steve Shellman, PH.D., graduated from University of Georgia with a BA in political Science, an M.S. in Political Science from Florida State, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Florida State University. He wrote the dissertation: Taking Turns: A Theory and Model of Government Dissident Interactions. He was then Awarded Best Dissertation by Peace Science Society International (2004) for world-wide dissertations completed on peace and conflict studies for the 2002-2004 period.
Stephen M. Shellman is the founder, CEO, and Chief Research Scientist at Strategic Analysis Enterprises, Inc and Virutoso. He also directs the Violent Intra-national Political Conflict and Terrorism (VIPCAT) Research Laboratory at the College of William and Mary.
Prior to his venture with SAE, Dr. Shellman served as Visiting Assistant Professor at William and Mary and as Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia. He has also previously held positions with the University of Maryland's START Center for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism and the University of Georgia's Center for International Trade and Security.
Since 2001, Dr. Shellman's work has been continuously funded by the National Science Foundation. In addition to extensive speaking engagements in industry and academia, Dr. Shellman has published a book and numerous articles on political violence with his work also being described in media outlets such as The Atlantic and The New Scientist.
